The Toronto Marlies, affiliate club of the Toronto Maple Leafs recently announced they had signed 29 year old Tomislav “Tom” Zanoski to a Training Camp Tryout Agreement ahead of the clubs first pre-season game again the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Zanoski, a 5’11” 185lbs winger who was original born in Zagreb, Croatia but grew up in Brampton, Ontario once listed Toronto in an interview as his favorite hockey city and here’s hoping he gets an extended opportunity to show what he can do in front of his hometown crowd with the Marlies after a brief stint a with the team a few years ago.
There wasn’t much in terms of information on what type of player Zanoski was but one could most likely safely assume he is a gritty forward that will add an element of veteran leadership to this young squad. Putting up 15 goals and 32 points with 119 PIMS the previous year with Zagreb Medvescak of the KHL he appears to bring an interesting mix of skill and grit to the club.
Potentially a move to fill out the roster for the upcoming pre-season games, Zanoski still poses to be another interesting tryout with the Marlies as management attempts to field a semi finalized roster for upcoming games this weekend with the expectation that the Maple Leafs will trim their own roster on Sunday before the season commences. Sunday is really shaping up to be an interesting day given the number of teams that are poised to waive players in order to get under the imposed salary cap and a number of teams, like Calgary with plenty of cap space. As always food for thought.
